Mental Health Hypnotherapy Birmingham

Hypnotherapy isn’t a replacement for medical care. If you have a serious mental health condition, your GP and any specialist support you’re under come first. You should always continue with whatever care has been prescribed.

What hypnotherapy does — and where I can genuinely help — is work alongside that care, helping you build the mental and emotional resources to feel more in control of your life. Many of my clients are seeing GPs, taking medication or working with mental health teams. Hypnotherapy doesn’t replace any of that. It supports it, and often makes it more effective.

What this category covers

  • Hypnotherapy for Depression — particularly mild to moderate low mood, alongside any GP-prescribed treatment.
  • Hypnotherapy for OCD — for the cycle of intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviours.
  • Hypnotherapy for BPD — for emotional regulation and relational patterns, alongside any clinical care.
  • Hypnotherapy for Body Dysmorphia — for the distress of perceived appearance flaws.
  • Hypnotherapy for PTSD and Trauma — including EMDR-based work for traumatic memories.
  • Hypnotherapy for Phobias — including fear of flying, fear of heights, fear of dogs and many others.

How I approach mental health work

The approach varies more here than for other categories, because mental health presentations are individual. Depression usually responds best to a combination of clinical hypnotherapy for nervous system regulation and coaching for behavioural activation. OCD responds well to NLP and Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy. PTSD and trauma usually involve EMDR, often with hypnotherapy alongside.

What stays consistent is that I won’t push beyond what’s clinically appropriate. If your situation needs specialist clinical care that I can’t provide, I’ll say so.

What I’m not

I’m not a clinical psychologist, psychiatrist, or NHS mental health trust practitioner. I don’t diagnose conditions or prescribe medication. For those things, your GP is the right person.

I’m a clinical hypnotherapist with eight years of experience, registered with [professional bodies — to be confirmed], working within their codes of ethics. The consultation is partly about working out together whether what I do is the right fit — and if it isn’t, I’ll say so.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

No, and I’d never claim otherwise. Hypnotherapy works alongside any medical treatment. Always continue with your GP and any prescribed medication.
I’m a clinical hypnotherapist, not a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist. For clinical-level mental health support — diagnosis, medication, severe symptoms — your GP is the right starting point.
Only if we’re using EMDR or specific trauma-focused work, and only with your full agreement. Most of my approach is forward-focused.
CBT works at the conscious level — challenging unhelpful thought patterns through structured exercises. Hypnotherapy works at a deeper level by calming the brain’s stress system through relaxation. The two complement each other well, and I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy specifically when both layers are useful.
Yes, fully — within standard professional ethics.
