Fear of dogs — cynophobia — usually starts in childhood, often after a specific incident such as a bite, a chase or a frightening encounter, but sometimes for no clear reason at all. By the time it’s an adult problem, it’s narrowing your life: declining invitations to friends’ houses with dogs, avoiding parks and walking routes, or panicking when an off-lead dog appears.
The good news is that it responds well to hypnotherapy, often quickly.
If there’s a specific founding incident, such as a childhood bite or being chased by a large dog, EMDR is often the most effective tool, sometimes combined with clinical hypnotherapy. Where there’s no specific event, NLP and visualisation-based work is usually enough.
We don’t bring dogs into sessions. We don’t show videos. The work happens in session — in person or online — and the change shows up naturally next time you encounter a dog.
Most fear-of-dogs clients need 3 to 5 sessions.
