Hypnotherapy for BPD Birmingham

If you have a Borderline Personality Disorder diagnosis, you’ll know it’s a label that comes with a lot of weight — and a lot of contradictions. Some clinicians work with it gently; others use it dismissively. Some treatments are well-evidenced; others have made you feel worse. By the time most clients come to me, they’ve usually had a complicated journey through services.

What I can offer

I’m not an NHS BPD specialist and I don’t run DBT, or Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, groups. DBT is the most evidenced treatment for BPD and should be your primary care if it’s available locally.

What hypnotherapy can do alongside that primary care:

  • Reduce overall nervous system arousal so emotional intensity is more manageable.
  • Work on specific triggering events using EMDR.
  • Build emotional regulation skills using NLP and Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy.
  • Create more space between trigger and reaction.
  • Address the underlying trauma that often sits beneath BPD presentations.

Important caveats

If you’re under a Community Mental Health Team, on medication, or in active crisis, please continue with that care. Hypnotherapy is a complement, not a substitute.

If you’re experiencing active suicidal thoughts or recent self-harm, please contact your Community Mental Health Team, call 999, or contact Samaritans on 116 123. Those situations need specialist support that I’m not the right person for.

Sessions are gentle and trauma-informed. We work at your pace.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

For diagnosed BPD, the recommended primary treatment is DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) through specialist mental health services. Hypnotherapy can be a useful adjunct alongside that primary care.
No. DBT is delivered by specialist trained therapists, usually in group format. If DBT is what you need and isn’t available locally, please push your CMHT or look into specialist services.
Only if we use EMDR or specific trauma work, and only with your full agreement.
Yes, fully — within standard professional ethics, with the usual exceptions for immediate-danger situations.
